SEACOR Announces Newbuilding Contract for Inland River Barges

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2003--SEACOR SMIT Inc. (NYSE: CKH) announced today that one of its subsidiaries has entered into a newbuilding construction contract with Trinity Marine Products, Inc., a subsidiary of Trinity Industries Inc. (NYSE: TRN), to construct, by the end of 2004, 150 to 230 inland river hopper barges.

The contract covers construction of various classes of barges to be declared at a future date.

The value of the contract will depend on the final design of the equipment and may vary substantially depending upon which barge designs are ultimately built and whether or not certain additional equipment is purchased for the barges.

SEACOR has also secured an option for delivery of 150 barges in 2005.

SEACOR and its subsidiaries are engaged in the operation of a diversified fleet of offshore support vessels that service oil and gas exploration and development activities in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, West Africa, Asia, Latin America and other international regions.
